WHY CASCAIS?
The municipality of Cascais took on the role of Transport Authority of the
Municipality of Cascais (ATMC) and assigned to its internal operator, the municipal
company Cascais Próxima, E.M., S.A. the competences to develop and exploit the
integrated system of sustainable mobility, that it has designated MobiCascais. This
system comprises parking, public transportation, the public network of bike sharing
and the integration of other modes of transportation and services.
Cascais is a smart city that puts itself at the service of the citizens and offers
them a higher quality of life, aiming for a clean and environmentally friendly
municipality. In a short period of time (since 2016) an integrated sustainable
mobility management system – MobiCascais – has been implemented. It is based on a
digital platform, which offers a diverse and flexible set of mobility and service
solutions that meets the needs of the inhabitants, workers and visitors of the
county. Since the 1st of january 2020, Cascais has become the country’s first
municipality with zero-fare public transportation.

The citizens have three different services available: shared leisure bicycles, the bike sharing service and the bike parking service, which allows the parking of private bicycles in the bike sharing stations and the shared leisure bicycles. This offer is based on a network of bicycle paths and cycleways, which are constantly expanding.
An innovative digital application, developed from scratch, that allows its users to consult the real-time schedules and transport delays, the estimated time to a certain stop, the best route to go from one point to another, use their transport titles, among other functionalities. Users are also able to subscribe/ purchase the available services on this App.
Ensures the management and integration of the various mobility solutions and
services, namely access control to parks, parking permits, alarm systems, bike
sharing and public transportation management.
In order to raise awareness to the importance of universal accessibility, as a
condition of an inclusive territory and full citizenship, during the Conference and
the tour periods specific experiences of mobility will be provided for people with
special needs. This theme is also a crosscutting theme for the conference.
The calendar of events promoted by the municipality of Cascais is attractive.
Cascais is the stage of a vast and diversified annual program of international media
events – Longines GCT of Estoril, Estoril International Golf Week, Lisbon & Estoril
Film Festival, Cascais RC44 Cup, Estoril Jazz, Cascais Classic MotorShow, Estoril
Conferences, among many others. Whitin the scope of mobility, it aims to actively
promote and participate in the debate on new mobility solutions at an European
level.
Cascais has a 30 km coastline, including beaches of wild nature and other more
urban, in a scenario of glamour that combines the blue of the Atlantic Ocean with
the green of Serra de Sintra. The historic center of Cascais is home to true
architectural gems, such as the Cidadela, Casa de Santa Maria, one of the most
emblematic works of the architect Raul Lino, the Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães,
the Museu do Mar, Rei D. Carlos, the Casa das Histórias de Paula Rego, a museum
projected by the architect Eduardo Souto Moura, awarded the Pritzker Prize, or the
Farol – Museu de Santa Marta.
